Up to now I’ve resited the urge to start any baby crafting projects, partly because I didn’t want to jinx anything, partly because it still doens’t feel entirely real yet, and partly because I don’t have any idea about what colour to knit. But in the past week I finally caved in and put wool to needle, choosing Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in a dusky duckegg blue. The pattern isn’t particularly challenging (what is it with moden baby patterns and the assumption that everything should be at beginner level??) but I chose it as like the colour, it’s suitable for either a boy or a girl. I’m also knitting it to fit a 6-9 month old, as it’s rather warm yarn and a cardigan like this might not come in very useful in the 90˚F heat of the Bay Area summer.
PS for anyone interested, the pattern is the cardigan with moss stitch edging from the Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino Book 2.

It really is more duckegg than the photo shows. I’m very into duckegg at the moment. Maybe I’ve been reading too much Country Living magazine….

What a lovely colour. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Baby knits are fun, but more so when it’s for your own little one.
Happy knitting!!

Yay!!! That’s a really cute sweater, for sure, and I love the color. I think that many baby patterns are at the beginner level because so many people start knitting when they are expecting. If I were in your place and wanted a challenging knit, I’d be working on a Baby Mine or Baby Yours from Yarn Harlot. One of the gals I knit with made a Baby Yours and it’s even cuter in person than in the pictures! =)

aw how cute, i love that blue, and it would def. work for a girl.. until i was 17, blue had always been my favourite color, as long as my mum can remember, i was always fond of blue !
well i guess it’s not challenging for you, but i sure am glad baby knitting patterns are not too hard, so by the time i have a kid, i can work on my knitting, but i guess i wont be a master either (unless i get pregnant in 20 years??) hehe.

Yay, Nin, I can’t wait to see your versions!
Em, you can be a master in much less time than you think, don’t worry! =)
